Innovative solutions for urban logistics – the case of Padua (Soluzioni innovative di logistica urbana – il caso di Padova)
The new SUMP is being developed in Padua. With the view of reducing traffic-related pollutants, the Municipality aims at optimizing the urban transport network, both in terms of services and infrastructures, through the implementation of SUMP provisions. Among other things, SUMP provisions include a strategic redesign of the urban logistics network, in particular with regards to the very-last mile segment. Some envisaged strategies call for the development of innovative solutions to optimize overall operational, socio-economic and environmental performance of the urban logistics system. The deployment of the NEXT system will address the issue of dynamic space allocation at urban level, where the concept of “dynamic lockers” will be in place.
